This Institute is designed by teachers for teachers. As such, participants will be asked to engage in several different activities before, during, and after the Institute to best transform their learning into practical outcomes for their classroom. These activities are also meant to help participants enter into a growing community of practicing scholar-educators who share peer-reviewed and tested climate literacy teaching materials.
Before the Institute
Four weeks prior to the Institute, participants will be asked to complete a survey to identify key questions, issues, and content gaps central to their climate justice teaching (practice and aspirational). Participants will also be asked to read selections from the assigned texts.
During the Institute
The first week of the Institute, the online week, will involve participants in a series of discussions held both synchronously and asynchronously online (via Canvas, the Institute's LMS). Participants will also be asked to propose a project idea to be complete by the end of the Institute. Projects may include, for instance: lesson or unit outlines, reading guides, article drafts, among other ideas.
Following the Institute
Participants will be invited to continue their professional development after the Institute through several avenues. Participants will be invited to contribute to a special issue of the Center's peer-reviewed journal, Climate Literacy in Education; facilitate Center programming and content development; and engage in dissemination of materials generated from the Institute. Through Center listservs, they will be notified of future collaboration and professional development opportunities.
